You can use this site to find any nurse jobs in the UK - from nurse jobs London, to nurse jobs Scotland, this is where you’ll find them!
Experienced nurses may wish to start job hunting straight away. And this is a perfect page from which to do that. Browse jobs or follow the links.
If you’re new to nurse jobs or considering a career in nurse jobs the information below will help you develop an understanding of the diversity of the industry. If you feel that, instead, you would like to search more broadly then Healthcarejobsite.co.uk lists more general health jobs, while Healthcarejobs.ie, another site we run, lists all health care jobs in Ireland including nurse jobs in Ireland and nursing home jobs in Ireland.
Registered Nurse Jobs
All jobs in the UK which call for a nurse do, by definition, require you to be registered. When applying for general nurse jobs (either hospital nurse jobs or community nurse jobs) you’ll always be applying for registered nurse jobs.
RGN nurse jobs are, well, all nurse jobs really. But in a care home or mental health setting it’s a means of differentiating general nurse jobs from mental health nurse RMN jobs.
Until you’ve passed your degree or diploma to gain your nursing qualification you cannot apply for NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration. Once you have your qualification, and your NMC pin number then, yes, you’re eligible to work as a nurse and apply for medical nurse jobs and clinical nurse jobs in the UK.
Variety and diversity
Staff nurse jobs has become a very generic phrase. It implies a nurse working on a ward, or as part of a team perhaps. But different nursing agencies and employers seem to use it interchangeably. Nurses.co.uk lists hundreds (indeed, thousands) of staff nurse jobs. But we don’t make it a category. This is because it’s a little too vague. It can mean so many things.
The many and disparate strands of specialisms within nursing are fascinating and deserve investigation. A ‘staff nurse’ can mean a member of the team on a medical ward, or in psychiatric mental illness, or in a specialist hospital working with learning disabilities clients, in an educational facility helping patients with autistic spectrum disorders, or a medium secure unit, or in a forensic environment helping prisoners with substance misuse issues.... A staff nurse can mean many, many things, so investigate your area(s) of interest. What kind of staff nurse job do you want?
Adult nurse jobs
When studying to become a nurse you’ll be presented with the choice of the major branches of nurse jobs. Adult nursing, very broadly, encompasses young and old adults with chronic or acute health (medical or surgical) conditions.
Opening up the branch of adult nursing and a whole spectrum of clinical nurse specialist jobs become available (especially within NHS nurse jobs - where variety and specialist opportunities are manifold). You’ll see on Nurses.co.uk, simply thousands of nurse jobs. And you’ll see specialisms within branches - take jobs in operating theatres for instance: scrub nurse jobs, perioperative nurse jobs, anaesthetic nurse jobs, theatre nurse jobs, recovery nurse jobs.... all within one specialism and one area of hospital nurse jobs.
Nurses.co.uk structures its key sectors largely around the format of a hospital. So, imagining the geography of a hospital for a moment... let’s move to critical care nurse jobs... You have intensive care nurse jobs (or intensive care unit nurse jobs), intensive therapy unit nurse jobs, dialysis nurse jobs. Or even specialisms within that specialism within adult nursing - so cardiac nurse jobs, and therefore cardiac intensive care unit nurse jobs, coronary care within ICU nurse jobs. Drill down, and in, and further down and the scope for specialisation in nurse jobs is, clearly, vast.
Still gazing at that map of a hospital in terms of jobs and you’ll see surgical nurse jobs, orthopaedic nurse jobs, outpatients nurse jobs and accident and emergency nurse jobs to highlight just a few.
Children’s nurse jobs
Children’s nurse jobs take in considerable social care issues and an ability to communicate with children and teenagers. Alert to the developmental needs of children into young adulthood (through training and experience) the children’s nurse will call on their awareness and empathy to help them manage a young patient’s various needs.
The needs of children are often veiled and not easily communicated. So a children’s nurse is expected to read the unsaid signs (the child who is anxious about a pending operation, or their sudden turn in health following surgery or medication).
Children’s nurse jobs often take on a social aspect too - perhaps protection from their environment or others around them. Diplomacy and a variety of communication skills with people of all ages (children and their parents) are key. In terms of environment, childrens nurse jobs may see you working in a clinic or in a hospital setting and often in the community, in people’s homes, or care centres.
Paediatric nurse jobs (and Nurses.co.uk offers many) require experience working with children too, and of course require an ability to assist and help their families. Like adult nurse jobs, paediatric nurse jobs can draw on skills learned in other specialisms (ICU nurse jobs, theatre nurse jobs, surgical nurse jobs for instance).
Mental health nurse RMN jobs
In your final year as a nurse you can choose to become an RMN (you may choose this within your first year of course!). RMN nurse jobs options, inevitably, are also wide and diverse. They can see the nurse working with clients who have psychological disorders, mental disease or personality disorders (PD).
Mental health nurse (RMN) jobs are often challenging and demanding. But, then, mental nurse jobs are also some of the most rewarding and fulfilling. RMN jobs can take you into the outside world frequently too. Community-based mental health nurse jobs will see you working with clients in their own homes, or residential centres, or specialist units.
Hospital-based mental health care may be NHS nursing jobs or in private, independent or specialist hospitals or clinics. Forensic nurse jobs (prison nurse jobs), clearly present a set of challenges almost unique to that setting. Pyschiatric nurse jobs demand a particular and special blend of personal skills and approach. Through training you’ll become adept at managing and promoting recovery within clients who may have personality disorders, developing a care plan for the homeless, helping substance misuse patients overcome their issues. Registered mental health nurse jobs are often thought of as particularly demanding, and also uniquely rewarding.
Learning Disabilities Nurse RNLD Jobs
Learning disability nurse jobs are about working, usually in a one-to-one scenario, with clients offering specialist support in order to promote well-being, rehabilitation or recovery.
Providing a programme of care can mean enhancing a person’s life, affording them the space and skills to lead a normal life. Patience and expertise as well as passion for care are paramount. This is about giving a person the confidence or skills to allow them social inclusion, social equality or independence, delivered safely. You’ll be working with clients who have physical and, or mental health conditions.
The settings for learning disabilities nurse (RNLD) jobs are in the classroom, residential homes, their own home, or prison. Working in LD jobs will take you out to the community, literally - sports centres, the shops, the cinema, seaside or theatre, travelling on public transport - to help instill confidence.
District nurse jobs
More community nursing jobs... If you like autonomy, watch this space! District nurse jobs provide elderly care, surgical recovery, stroke recovery, palliative care. District nurse jobs are, obviously, community based. But you may have a centre at a GP surgery or local clinic or PCT.
Practice nurse jobs
Working mostly in GP surgeries practice nurse jobs are carried out either as part of a practice nurse team in larger surgeries, or as the only nurse. With training and if the situation requires it you can be eligible for nurse practitioner jobs managing teams and / or your own caseload.
Moving on up, or elsewhere
Within all branches of nursing you will have ample opportunity to move up the career levels and bands. Through further training, secondments and development of skills you can look at senior nurse jobs, charge nurse jobs, lead nurse jobs, nurse manager jobs and other senior or managerial positions. Nurses.co.uk allows you to search by specialism, and by career level.
The environments can become varied too. Occupational health nurse jobs will have nurses based within the company or organisation they are employed by.
Beyond clinical nursing you also have options - nurse assessor jobs, research nurse jobs.... it goes on and on and on. Good luck!
